In January 2008, Elinor Gilbey provided Clayton and Ethel Brough with the following information about the Gibbs family:
The gravestone of William Gibbs (1815-1835) is located in St. Martin’s churchyard in Laugharne, Wales. William Gibbs was a brother to Mary Ann Gibbs (b.1812) who was the mother of John Martin Jr. (1846-1900). John Martin Jr. immigrated to the United States in 1868, and died in Samaria, Idaho, in 1900. Mary Ann Gibbs apparently never married John Martin Sr., but she is buried in the same churchyard as her brother, William Gibbs. Members of the Gibbs family are buried in the same section of the churchyard but the gravestones are not all intact.
This John MArtin had [or was married to] two wives, the first being Margaret Jones and the second being Mary Ablett. John Martin Jr. was born between these marriages to Mary Ann Gibbs. Mary Ann Gibbs was from Laugharne and had a brother who worked in Merthyr Tydfil...which might be how she met John Martin Sr. After having the baby Mary Ann returned to live with her parents in Laugharne and there she remained, unmarried, until her death. She is buried in St. Martin's Church with her parents and siblings. | Family: F7224
